Identity
I love this exchange in Matthew 16:13–19:
“When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Peter has a revelation from God about who Jesus is. In return, Jesus reveals to Peter who Peter is.
This is so how God works!
He does not point out all the bad about Peter, but He speaks to his destiny and his purpose.
He does this over you as well.
You cannot afford to have a thought in your head about you that He doesn't have in His.
When you spend time with Jesus and dig in to His word, the Holy Spirit reveals to us who He is and who we are in Him.
There is no other way to walk in our true identities as children of the living God.
Jesus said, “As the Father sent Me, I send you.” Jesus was sent to reveal who the Father was and, in turn, we are now the ones who are sent to reveal to the world who Abba, our Father, is. We are His sent ones.
Peter became what he beheld, and it is the same for you today—you will become what you behold.
What or who has your gaze? Who has all your devotion?
